UNO- With a Twist

Uno, a game that has been around way before I existed. To be exact it was created in 1971.

If you don't know what UNO is or never played it, it's time! Go and buy yourself a deck it's well worth the money. You want the original version if you are a first timer. There are many themed versions that may have a few extra rules.

The goal of the game is to be the first player to play all the cards in their hand in each round and score points from the cards their opponents are left holding. The first to score 500 points wins the game.

Here are the rules for UNO.

Variations-Adding that Twist

Variation #1 Interruption UNO (requires 3+ players)

Interruption UNO is played just like the normal game of UNO, but you get to interrupt someone else's turn. You must be quick and be paying attention or you might miss the chance.

1. You may play out of turn and interrupt only if you have an identical card to what was just played on the discard pile.

Yes you can interrupt yourself if you have 2 cards that are identical. But you need to play them one at a time.

An example: Player 1 plays a blue 3 and player 4 also has a blue 3 and places it on the discard pile before player 2 gets to play. Players 2 and 3 just got skipped and the play continues from player 4 around the circle.

2. Draw 2 Card- If an interruption happens before the player starts drawing the 2 cards for their turn the player after the player that interrupted has to now draw for both draw two cards, which makes them draw 4.

3. Reverse Card- If an interruption happens count both reverse cards as individual reverses. It basically reverses the reverse.

4. Skip Card- If interrupted the player next to the person that played gets skipped.

5. Wild Card- It plays just like a regular Wild Card with the interrupting player getting to choose the color they want.

6. Wild Draw 4 Card- If a player plays a Draw 4 and another player interrupts with another Draw 4 Card the player after the interrupting player now has to draw a total of 8 cards. Limit 2 Draw 4 cards per play or you might end up drawing 16 cards.

7. The Key: The interruption has to happen before the next player starts their turn.

Variation #2 Fast Eddie UNO Requires 3+ players (Don't ask where this name came from, because I don't know.)

Fast Eddie UNO is played the same way as Interruption UNO but with a bit more viciousness.

If a player plays a 7 everyone passes their hand to the next player in the direction the play is going. For every 7 played you pass your hand in the direction the play is going. You might end up passing more than once.

If a player plays a 1 he/she has the option of trading hands with someone else. If they want to trade they have to say STOP before the next player plays or an "interruption" happens. If a player that could interrupt didn't get their interruption card played before the STOP was said they still have a chance to play after the trade is done and before the next person in turn plays.

Have Fun!!
